Bendict XIII's Dream

Avingion Cathedral (Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms d'Avignon) lies next to the Palace of popes, which it predates: it was built in the 12th century, and is of the romanesque sytle. The belltower colapsed in 1405, however, an was rebuilt in 1425, which meant that if fell under the anti-pepacy of Benedict XIII, but was restored by his Roman sucessor, as the anti-pope had fled Aviguinon in 1423. A goldes statue to the virgin Mary was build ontop of the bell tower in 1859.

The phogoraph is obviously taken fromt the Plalais des Papes, Avignon, France. The Pope would have beheld the church, but, having fled in 1423, could only dream of such a golden statute.
