Inside a Teardrop

The Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Tears) was built in Syracuse (Sicily) in 1994, after a picture of the Madonna in a farmer's house had miraculously shed tears in 1953 (the building was commissioned in 1956). The architects, Pierre Parat and Michel Andrault wanted to imitate a teardrop in their architecture. The ceiling shown here is 74.50 meters high.
