Roman Gatehouse

The Pars Urbana (living quarters) of the Villa Rustica (Farm) at Borg, originally built by the ancient Romans in the territory of the Gallic Treveri, not far from the Mosella and the Saar, has been excavated and rebuilt in the 1980s. It shows how a rich Gallo-Roman would have lived in those days, amongst the luxury of a well-tended garden and a symetrical buildings in the colours still popular in the Mediterranean world. The villa and gardens were rebuilt with great care as closely as possible to archaeological and documentary evidence. This building is the gatehouse into the enclosure area of the living quarters: the pars rustica (the properly agricultural area) lay outside.

The Villa Borg, near Perl in the Saarland, close to the Luxembourg frontier, can be visited, and stages great events such as Roman festivals and the International Re-Enactor's Market.
