Description

The Roman theatre of Dalheim in Luxembourg - ancient Ricciacum (or Ricciaco) seated between 3'500 and 4'000 spectators. By comparison, the largest auditorium in the modern Royal National Theatre in London has a capacity of 1'160 people. This theatre was built first in around 70 AD, and remodelled a few times. The first two rows come with backs, and were reserved for the elite. Unlike more famous Roman theatres, this one was built against a slope, and is not free-standing.
