Statues and Scenes

On an arch at the entry to the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Luxembourg from the Enneschtgaass, scenes from Genesis and some semi-fantastic creatures are carved.


The scenes show the creation of the world and the Garden Eden: God creates night and day (Genesis 1.3-5), causes land to rise from the primordial water (Genesis 1.9-10), and then creates the creatures of earth (Genesis 1.20-26). In the last pannel, Adam and Eve have their fateful encounter with a giant serpent (Genesis 3.1-6).

Above them are creatures that I cannot really identify, but who look interesting enough. The statues date from the last remodelling of the Church in the 1930s. Thanks to SkyinOd for help in identifying this.
