The Centurion invites for dinner

This triclinium - dining room with three (tri-) couches (-clinae) in the centurion's suite as rebuilt in the Legionärspfad Vindonissa in Windisch (CH). In good society, Romans would lie down to dinner, not sit as we would do nowadays, and the rule for the number of diners was "no less than the Graces (3), no more than the Muses (9)". Centurions, leaders of a century of 80 men, had much better accomodations than the squadies who were sharing one room with 7 comrades (8 men made up the contubernium, or tent-community), and actually disposed of multiple rooms. The Primus Pilus, chief centurion of the legion, had rather luxurious accomodations.

Windisch also has a reconstructed field-hospital and regular barracks, as well as remains of various houses (including the Primus Pilus'), gates, and baths, all of which are arranged along a path through parts of the town.
